Tandem 101 will address the basics of tandem riding: terminology, communication, mounting and dismounting, starting and stopping, shifting, etc… We will also discuss special considerations when cycling with a visually impaired stoker. After everyone feels comfortable on their bikes and we’ve practiced in the parking lot, we’ll do a 15-20 mile ride.
Because of the logistics of a ride like this, we need to know how many riders will be attending so we can have enough tandems. Please contact Barb Plunkett at 609-397-5245 or bplunk11 [at] comcast [dot] net if you are coming and with your questions. We need experienced tandem riders to volunteer. Please lend a hand or a bike.
July 30th – August 1st, Cycling for Sight (CFS) http://cyclingforsight.org is an event that is both FOR and BY blind cyclists. It is for - benefits the San Diego Center for the Blind and the Blind Stokers Club. It is by - the CFS peloton of cyclists includes tandem teams with blind/VI stokers, as well as supporting cyclists of all varieties sharing the bike tour adventure.
Blind/VI tandem teams are not required to raise the $1,800 per tandem team ($900 per person) fee; instead are asked to actively fundraise to their ability. No Blind/VI team will be turned away for falling short of this fundraising goal.
For remote Blind/VI teams (outside southern Calif), California Dreamin’ travel assist sponsorships are available, for the purpose of traveling to and from the CFS tour.
