Talking Tandems in Bend, Oregon

Last week, I enjoyed a beautiful walk in Bend, OR, with two skillful stokers registered on our site.  We discussed ideas for promoting tandem riding and expanding our website's influence.   In photo:  Ron Burzese, myself, Nancy Stevens, & guide dog Cocoa (the real brains of the group).

Thanks RoadBikeRider.com!

RoadBikeRider.com published information about our organization and our website in a recent newsletter.  Within one week, we gained over 30 tandem captains across the country!  That means more riding for our blind/visually impaired stokers.  Thanks, RoadBikeRider!  Learn about bike mechanics, strength training, cold-weather riding, nutrition, and all else cycling, at their website.  It is chock-full of information.

Burley Tandem Donated to Us

Many thanks to the Scotts in Oregon for their donation of "Ferdinand", a black Burley tandem, to the U.S. Blind Tandem Cycling Connection.  The Scotts named him after Ferdinand the Bull, the cartoon character who was more interested in smelling the flowers than bull fighting.  Ferdinand has already taken two blind stokers out for rides and he looks forward to more rides to come.  We are building a fleet of tandems in Southern California in hopes of starting a club.  If you know of a tandem that needs a home, please consider donating the bike to us.

Blind Bicycle Repair

Repairing bicycles isn’t just for the sighted.  Mr. Blackstock, who is blind, runs his bicycle repair business in Napa Valley, California.  I’m thankful for mechanically talented people.  Even with 20/20 eyesight I struggle to make sense of it all!  Ziegler Magazine for the Blind

Tandem Biking and Parkinsons Disease

Parkinson's patients can use this website to find tandem pilots. Research is demonstrating that tandem biking improves motor function for Parkinson's patients. Please visit http://www.pedalingforparkinsons.org for videos and research findings.
